August 19, 2004

It was today back in 1980 that Saudia Flight 163 suffocated all 301 passengers and crew when a Pakistani Muslim lit a butane stove on board to make tea. And last year on this date, 5,000 French died in a summer heat wave. They are still pointing fingers at each other. That's the news, except for the announcement that the company I work for has been sold. There have been telltale signs for a while that there is a big shakeup going on.
Meanwhile, here is a great example of Hubble telescope capability. Alas, this vaunted instrument never did discover anything really new nor did it fulfill any hopes of discovering the origin of the universe. Basically, it's another waste of money.
