Um, the skies are surprisingly clear for the worst hurricane prediction of the season. JZ and I walked around Cutler Ridge. Kansas State University says this is the best day to fertilize your strawberries. I don't likely have an entry for April 2, 1987, but according to totally unofficial sources:

"The longest journey completed with the handbrake on was one of 504 km (313 miles) from Stranraer to Holyhead by Dr. Julie Thorn (GB) at the wheel of a Saab 900 on the 2nd April 1987. Dr. Thorn smelled burning two miles into her journey at Aird but pressed on to Holyhead with smoke billowing from the rear wheels. This journey also holds the records for the longest completed journey with the choke fully out and the right indicator flashing.

There is a rumor about the Guinness record book, you know? It goes that all the records in the world are held by Chuck Norris and Guinness is just a list of those people whose records have come closest.

The Russian submarine, Kursk, sank fourteen years ago today. And in 1981, IBM released it's first personal computer. The price was $1,600 for the can. With monitor, 64K of RAM, and a 5-1/4" floppy, the price was $3,000. Author's note: the equivalent price thirty years later, in 2011, would be $7,000. About the price of an Apple, or put another way, the price of a real computer.
And here's a photo of the weirdest galaxy yet found. The yellow center is much older than the blue ring stars. What are we looking at here?
