That was Teresa on the phone just now. They are having a pig roast up in Wilmiewood. That beats the agenda for around here. Let me recap the high points for today. There is a benefit on the 26th we might play at. I’m calling the guy back about the mailboxes later today. No Jimbo’s tonight as I found performing leaves me, like most musicians, less in the mood for practice in the following days. I may have a paying gig for the 18th.
Here is the car “of at least three colors” that already stole Teresa’s parking spot. Note the yellow “No Trespassing” sign directly in front of the driver’s view. But hey, Florida is a haven for people who cannot read, will not read, or wish daily they could forget how because doing so causes them so much trouble every time they try it. I’ve biked past the condo a few times and this car is not always in the parking spot. But often enough.
I’ve got all the new computer equipment needed to see if I can repair the “ticky-bop” sound of my Karaoke tracks, plus a ton of new software from Arnel. My new show must go ahead even though I really don’t think I’m ready. People tell me it is like marriage or moving to California, you can’t wait until you are ready or you’ll never do it. But all the tunes I have that are suitable for presentation are the ones Arnel gave me. We have a tacit agreement not to play each other’s material. I certainly can’t ask him to prepare others for me. It is a lot of time-consuming technical work.
You know, on Channel 54 there is a brief production on doggie wigs. It shows the couch out front that I stood on to change burned-out light bulbs, the front door, and several extremely good-looking actresses, none of whom I met. There is a good clip of Ruth plugging the wigs, ensuring all that the product is safe and comfortable. I would at least like to meet the actresses. That’s reasonable. I mean, how many times do you see a commercial where you personally recognize everybody and the location? I seem to be the only one who’s gotten zero credit so far. I’m just sayin’.
Friday is supposed to be my day off. I was in the shop most of it, planning for the mailboxes. Keep in mind that I don’t do business like most. My challenge is to set the whole thing up using only new incoming cash. I won’t run out and rack everything up on a credit card just to have it all now. That wouldn’t be a real challenge. The short term delays and pauses from doing things my way give opportunities to reflect on each move. I’ve seen too many people, doctors included, who rushed into things and spend the next ten years wondering what they got themselves into.
Let’s recap the new information. The local post office, one of the worst for lineups, has a minimum box fee of $21 per month, more for the same box if the letters are “commercial”. Parking is a joke over there; I think there are four spots. We have fourteen. In another brilliant maneuver, their stamp machine no longer takes cash (credit cards only). They are located in a business district, where we are surrounded by apartments and residences, although I don’t yet know if that makes any difference.
I’m still mulling over the notification service. Not everybody will have a convenient way to contact them. I want to avoid having to repeated call somebody, or get into anything time-consuming, like text messaging. I certainly don’t want them calling in to check if they have mail. I’ve even toyed with the idea of a web cam in each box. I would also have to devise some way of tagging which boxes are on the program. But rest assured, these obstacles will be conquered. The potential for these boxes is incredible considering it will occupy less than one percent of the available floor space.
