February 20, 2012

This is recording gear 1990 style as set up today. Trent brought this over and I’ve already recorded a 4 channel cover of “Love Me Tonight”. The levels are all wrong and the inputs are all dry (no reverb), but we have drums, rhythm, bass, and vocals. Like writing a book, the layman has no idea how much time goes into getting everything right. Also shown is the musical instrument clutter taking over the south end of my Florida room. That’s the fanciest microphone that ever been in this place. I can’t get it to work, but it sure is fancy.
For the aficionados, that is an 8-track Tascam, quite the home duty rig. It is finicky to get used to and the last two channels have unfathomable settings. It can record up to four channels at once, though I prefer to grab each “voice” independently. This first successful recording tonight was needed to offset a hectic day, as outlined below. I knew this place was too small when I moved in.

Trivia. Have you seen that video of the dork who hit the mountain? He jumped off the top of a cliff wearing one of those “wingsuits”. There, he hits the edge of a rock and tumbles all the way down. They cut the video before you actually see him splatter. Good. That’s one less dumb jock and one less bad example for the world. These asshats don’t do this for research or science. They are just stupid jocks risking their lives for personal glory. They don’t fool anybody. Good riddance.
Today, expect little else. It was one of those days in and out of clinics and offices, the kind that if you are working, you eventually have to take the whole day off without pay. Has anybody ever done a study of the billions in lost productivity over this crazy American custom? It is worse in Canada, where libraries and government offices are only open during the average man’s working hours. Other than that, they are “free”.

The upside as you read today’s progress, is that I am shooting for a full clearance as early as April to drive and travel again. Remember, I was trapped in Florida, I had never intended to spend ten years here. It’s a dirty, scummy, inefficient state with bad laws, terrible roads, ugly women, and high crime. If I’d not had that heart attack, by 2006 I’d have been living in Colorado, probably retired.
I cheerfully state most doctor visits since late 2010 have been for related conditions, not my heart. I saw a new laser blood analyzing machine today. It produces results in ten minutes. It’s around the size of an oil can. And it uses such a small sample, I did not even feel the pin prick. To me, these tests represent prevention, and that is positive in my thinking. I have been unable to travel in all 8 years, I didn’t even venture very far from my cardiologist. It’s easy to understand why I am so focused on these test results.

It was an early morning scooter sprint to the clinic, a 22 mile trip one-way that took nearly 90 minutes in rush hour traffic. It wasn’t all good news. Whereas my heart condition has stabilized over the previous 18 months, there are related conditions ranging from drug side effects to a delay in wavebeat between heart and extremities. These are not helped by the necessity to become less physically active for years after an incident.
The result is I go for another expensive battery of tests, this time to look at the efficiency of my veins. I point out (again) that my condition has stayed level for many moons now and all are related to my health 8 years ago, that I have developed no new heart problems for nearly a decade. Maybe I’m actually getting over Robynette. (The medical term for what I had is cardiomyopathy. I assure you it can kill, don’t believe the crowd that says it is imaginary.)
ADDENDUM

“The Race Is On”, the continuing saga. Since the expiry of Limewire, I tend not to download MP3s or similar files. So, it is youTube and conversion software. The flash video is downloaded and converted to an MP3 locally. These may contain crowd noises and unusual versions, so all that can be found are downloaded. Next, they are trimmed and normalized.
I have four versions (G. Jones, J. Jones, D. Edmunds, S. Brown). These are amalgamated to chose the best features of each. For example, the bass line chosen is the version by Sawyer Brown. Next, the lyrics are downloaded and most of the time have to be corrected due to the large number to total idiots in the music community. Return tomorrow for the next phase.
