August 24, 2020

Yesteryear
One year ago today: August 24, 2019, total gun control.
Five years ago today: August 24, 2015, at the lumber mill.
Nine years ago today: August 24, 2011, a call to bingo.
Random years ago today: August 24, 2017, Joe lasted 3 practices.

Due to a mixup in communications, the doggies got three walks and three car rides in the morning alone. Starting with a wonderful stroll at the lake, but one favorite (you might say pet) activity was curtailed. The water level is high, meaning no walks on the shore because there isn’t any. The Reb explains the lake has been that way all summer. Before I forget, the neighbor who is fixing his brothers speedboat got the motor running. A 200 HP Evinrude V-6, but it will not rev. I was just out to take you a picture but he’s got it back under the tarp.
Maybe I’ll get talked into a 4D movie. The symbols on this one sign say thunder, lightning, fog, aroma, wind and some I can’t recall. Bubbles and heat? Anyway, she promises not to laugh too much. Remember the Disney rocket chairs? I’m expecting something to that effect. Much as I like the movies, I'm beginning to balk at spending $55 for a couple to see one.

Raising prices to combat falling revenues is probably a pretty dumb idea. I’m reminded of the tale about how Nigeria kept raising the tax on scotch whiskey for the same reason. In no time at all, tax revenue fell to zero. They had to turn to money wiring scams. In a rare waste of time, I’m going to tune into the Republican convention. According the the Democrats, we are in desperate need of law and order, beginning with gun confiscation. I want to hear both sides, then laugh.
Funny thing, due to C-19, car radio listenership has increased steadily since the shutdown. The greatest increases seem to be talk radio since, well, there isn’t really much else on either the radio or cable TV. That’s a stick in the eye to the liberals, since the unintended consequence is the greatest talk radio listening audience ever just before an election. And talk radio is predominantly pro-American.

From what I gather, the Democrats had a joke of a cnnvention and the Republicans are not reacting as expected. What I notice most is the change in strategy on this. The Democrats stuck to the formula of promises to do something if elected. But like most regular people, I cannot think of a single promise they ever kept. Once they get in, it is right back to the same old left-wing deep state hidden agenda.
That puts the far left in the position of attacking an enemy who is ignoring them. Trump has learned the art of war and they are the ones who taught him. Instead of blabbing what they are going to do, the Trump administatioin just points to what they have already done. The message is if you want it to continue, you know what you gotta do. And it seems to be working.

Important vet visit. It turns out Sparkie has arthritis associated with old age. It’s a relief to learn that, I mean when I saw him climb the stairs. And here’s Sam getting his bath in the kitchen sink. See the poor orphan look? Don’t fall for it, he loves getting a bath. This is the doggie that will wade into any water or puddle he can find. Even the turtle won’t do that. Oddly, Sam can’t naturally swim.

Needing some down time on my own, I went over to Scooters for a few cold ones last night, using the time to flesh out my country music lists and plan for next weekend. The club raised prices by a dollar, quite a leap but at least they are open. A bottle of domestic, usually meaning Budweiser, is now $4.00. This is why I tip only on every second round, folks. The servers don’t mind, but don’t try to short them, even by mistake. With my accounting background, that’s not likely.

New York City since y’day sports 12 injured and 3 dead. I’ve never had much of an opinion of New York City, but I have an opinion on this sort of violence. I’ve drawn a lifelong distinction between people suffering and people getting what they asked for. Since the media is not forthcoming with the whole truth, this opinion is regularly brought into play. Were these deaths in certain areas, were the police defunded there, what role did their elected officials play? Who elected them? Why?
How about that wierdo mayor? Trying to blame his fiscal mismanagement on Trump and demanded emergency funds really intended to cover for his terrible deficits. Didn’t take long for other cities to jump on that bandwagon. Another item on my watch list is the non-black, Kamala, which I pronounce “camel-ah”. She is being misquoted as coming to get your guns, when what she meant is confiscation of weapons from people with criminal records and others who are not supposed to have them. I have two problems with that. One is she mentions their names are on a list. Two, after that, it’s a short step to all guns. The squads will be trained, experienced, and ready.

You can figure out from other things I’ve said what I think about people who make and act on lists that are not available to the public. Do you have any idea what lists your name is on and the purpose for that? Saying you don’t care is how these lists get established. You may not know this, but don’t think they don’t. For example, the original concept of taking guns from bad guys has already expanded to confiscating banned weapons (even if obtained before the ban—an American legal point), pulling licenses of gun dealer “suspects” and establishing a database of “legal gun owners”. It’s the hydra.
Now before any activists point a finger at me, here’s a test to see who is the more biased and intolerant. Here is a picture just below with something that does not belong. This is part of a luxury three-room ensuite on flights out of Heathrow. It includes a private shower and a one-way trip sets you back around $23,000. ( I’m thinking on it.) But anyway, this picture contains something that is out ot whack, something that most people, if they spot it, would want corrected or removed. I know what it is. Do you? Hint: what was your first thought? Now what was your first thought about what I thought? Gotcha. Now who’s the more prejudiced?

What is wrong with this picture?
