One year ago today: May 7, 2023, I switch to oat milk.
Five years ago today: May 7, 2019, was he, now?
Nine years ago today: May 7, 2015, neat, modern, recycleable.
Random years ago today: May 7, 2008, heavy set, middle-aged.
The kava show was so-so, but still more fun than a smoky barroom. I’m tired but want to do something new and different. It’s not that easy in my situation and there are rules. If I was wise, I’d use the budget surplus to buy one of those giant floor fans on sale at Tractor Supply. The news is mostly the attacks on Trump, if they dare put him in jail, there is nothing that will destroy them more completely. If Trump is behind bars, that promotes him to Supreme Commander of the free world and millions will follow his orders. Trouble is brewing.
We need good news and that means checking my back yard. Aha, the woodpeckers are back and loving that blueberry treats. They have some avian off-setting policy with the titmouse clan. Both species are fearless, sometimes not bothering to look up if I’m in the yard. The titmouses (titmice) seem to love the water spray and ladders, plus any type of hanging perches. Tentatively, the tiny new birds with the flash of dark blue, may be a type of sparrow.
That’s’ when I decided to spend some of the trip cash on birdie treats. If I get underway today, that is. This is summer weather and I swear every 5°F is now translating into another hour of daytime sleep. And it is nearly 100°F in that back yard by noon. My master plan is to pay some bills, do some shopping, and then go watch some Festus re-runs. Who’s with me on this one? Maybe I’ll sneak in a downtown coffee, maybe drive to Bartow.
I’ve still got that audio-book by the Vidal character and I’m beginning to dislike him more. How did a zero like that become an influencer? By now his arm should be broken in three places from patting himself on the back and he is slick as hell with that acrobatic. It’s never his balcony but the balcony of a rich and famous figure who invited him to Naples or Salerno. I’m on disk three and already his friends are dying of multiple conditions, the last one had food poisoning, appendicitis, water on the brain, various abdominal tumors and lung cancer. I know nothing fo Vidal’s orientation, but that spells AIDs big time.
Silver is inching upwards again punctuated by big bank deals that take the daily volume to towards 40 million ounces. It’s a general upward trend that has me mildly interested, the banks can afford a spike but not a trend that catches them when their debts come due.
“Somewhere in Vermont.”
Remember to use BACK ARROW to return to blog.
This afternoon’s Festus episode was great. Titled “Luke”, it was an intense (though cheaply produced) plot about a saloon gal who impersonates a dying outlaw’s daughter, only to fall in love with his sidekick. The neighbor has taken on a housekeeper (good idea) who I think I may know from somewhere. He likes somebody to talk to while I’m the sort that would pay extra for peace & quiet at home. Luke the so-so actor, eventually tells Cathy he thinks she is pretty. While there may be something to say about falling in love with the first gal you find sexy, it is best you say it before you hang around here very much.
Reviewing the not-so-great recordings of the second kava show, the weak and strong points of the duo are confirmed again. There is no correct way to play our arrangements that works all the time. Instead, we have certainly mastered one form and it is a good one. We can capture the theme of the tunes we play, something we set out to do as an “anti-comping” technique. It is easy to tell by distinct presentation each of the songs we are playing, but yes, there is a tendency toward Bluegrass and rock in our basic sound. Like all bands, it is not for everybody, but we can hold our own in most situations. Just keep in mind there are some truly super guitar players in central Florida that compete for the same slice of the pie.
I almost took a drive, so we almost had some adventure. Lately the most fun has been in the area west of Orlando. This picture from our trip to the Citrus Tower shoes some of the mileages involved. It would have happened when I remembered the nearly 1-1/2 hours it took to drive the 50 miles to Clermont. That area around Grand Island is to me, mostly unexplored. Travel is less fun now that Biden has closed all the good coffee shops.
The new club on Parker is slated for a visit this week. I’ll go alone, since the talk says it is an open mic limited to three or so tunes. I can’t expect the Prez to drive that distance for so few. I texted Bradford despite his known quirk of changing his mind at the last moment. This event is his invite but don’t count on a thing unless he walks in. He rarely talks about his career which, I think, has random work hours and I quit my last big band over a similar issue. I say again, a band is like a part time job and if you don’t have the time, it’s fun without profit, a real no-go.
I keep a small circle of friends and fully admit it is merit-based. It surprises me not to learn half of us are still in the midst of those one-at-a-time flu symptom. Consider my routines risky, I shared a microphone with strangers last day and few Wal*Mart shoppers cover their sneezes. This afternoon, hello heavy upper chest congestion. It’s a good thing I have a month’s supply of coffee and the habit of typing 11,000 words a day.
Cancel the coffee downtown, I’m not spending $4 per cup even if I have the money. The big restaurants, reports Newsmax, are hit badly. Makes sense, the first thing most people can do to cut back spending is eat at home. Starbucks shares continue to tumble. You know who else is not doing so well? The encyclopedia industry. It seems that A.I. is finally translating Hitler’s speeches in their proper context and yes folks, they’ve been lying to you for 90 years. Prices are falling again in Tennessee but still in the stratosphere. (One place dropped $75,000.) It’s fun to watch though I’ve always been surprised how long that situation can continue. You’d think they’d run out of money in no time and have to sell yet some cling on for years.
Instead, I chose to stay put and read on two topics I’ve been putting off. Navigation is something I can only do with the Sun. Understand the concept for other objects but have decided today I will read about star navigation to be able to say I took a look. After that, I’ll be taking a look at small rocket motor design, this is out of pure curiosity. I’m interested I how these Middle Eastern types are building rockets when they can buy them cheaper. I believe it is because they are not confident of their supply chain. Small rockets are quite easy to build, the directions are on-line. My interest is the fuel supply.
Years ago I read that core burn fuel is better than end burn. I want to know why and apparently the answer is the heat distribution. End burn are rockets that consume the fuel from the back toward the front (bulkhead), where a core burn has a hollow tube down the middle so th burn is from the inside out. I was curious to learn they drill that hole, seems dangerous to me. One of the videos ended with a demo of turning a rocket nozzle. Um, I get the basics but that is a job for somebody else. I’ll pass on the nozzles.
