March 1, 2005

I promised you a picture of Anna’s Courtyard, the hotel that poses as an apartment building. Now tell me, is this a picture of a hotel? They are back in business I see, but there are never any cars parked in front on the street any more. Parking there used to be a real premium. See the fake palm plastic palm tree? People in Florida seem fascinated by palms in any form, probably because they’ve never seen a real island in the Philippines. This is the south wall of Anna’s Courtyard, facing the side street.

[Author's note 2015-01-01: I was later to learn that Hollywood, Florida, is full of this type of misleading arrangements. This is registered as a hotel, but was built as an apartment. We have "seaside" resorts that are twelve miles inland, dog racing parks that are gambling casinos, and lots of city public parks that won't let you play a guitar without a permit. Also, look at the date, March 1, 2005. This was still the transition period where I was no longer keeping a full journal, but was not yet committed to an on-line version either. It will pick up as I gain experience.

Any pictures below are from the future, there was no emphasis on taking photos back in 2005, so you may get random unused photos from years later. Like this very expensive wall, before all the neat woodwork gets hidden by draperies.]
