This photo does not make sense at first. Here's the background. I've told about the French flea market in the corner of the Mardi Gras casino grounds. Without any obvious explanation, they are drawing larger crowds than the gambling. There are regularly hundreds of cars in the nearby lots, all well to the east of the dog track parking, all with Quebec license plates. But that also means a bigger concentration of idiots and more car accidents.
That's today's shot, it reveals several things at once. First, never buy a digital camera that takes more than a half-second to bring into action, if you can afford it, I mean. I've missed plenty of shots over this issue. Next, see how that pedestrian managed to get right between me and the torn off car bumper. Florida is full of dunces like that, it is amazing to see every day. Stay in this town a month, and you will be staring at the sky asking your God, "How do they know?"
Last, you will see this accident happened in bright daylight on a dry, clear flat roadway. That's something else you'll have to adapt to in this town: stupidity. As I've warned before, there are no daily self-correcting punishments in the system down here, you can be dumb as a sack of wet hammers and get away with anything you want--as long as you scream discrimination when anybody complains.
As you've probably guessed, I've been pressed for time the past few days. Today I lost a few hours trying to get an ordinary D-link router to work with Windows 7. Normally I blame Microsoft when something like that goes wrong, because the manufacturers of the device have no incentive to do anything wrong. In the end, I had to leave the client without any wireless protection. It appears the client computer would not log on if the WEP or WPA modes were set on the router.
I also took a peek ahead at Arduino projects, since I'm still working on my first transistor radio. It seems to be like the rest of the Internet and real life. Tons of beginners material and nothing much beyond that. I see a potential booklet market, but don't know how to exploit it. There is no easy stepping stone between beginner circuits, like the ones I make, and the advanced circuits which are far beyond the comprehension level of the casual learner. There are lots of kits, but kit's don't teach anything useful. What do do?
I finished Michael Connlly's "A Darkness Worse Than Night" and cannot recommend it. With that many characters to memorize, you may as well read Dostoyevsky and be able to say you did. The plot is a little too "made-for-movie-rights". I would have solved the mystery but I was too busy keeping a log of names. A new character on average every 8.6 pages. An exhausting excercise for those seeking casual fiction. The only marvel in the book is how twisted the differing law enforcement agencies have alienated each other. Each vying for glory rather than justice.
This morning I had coffee at Dunkin's. And planned what to do for the upcoming month. I'm not predicting a lot of good times for anyone who has lied to me or let me down. I may not wait for others to make a decision or even wait at all for that matter. I know who the enemy is and will act in good time. Those who know more about the right way to do things better than I do will get their chance to prove it.
