Here's a specimen of S. Florida Urban Art. The creations of the simple-minded that prove sheer masses of the uneducated possess a certain quality of their own. Which came first, the fence or the tree? I know this is hard to see, but I have to blame this one on my lousy camera, a Flash 150. It is a tree that grew through a chain link fence. Then somebody cut down the tree, leaving pieces of in in the links. Another Florida type hung a plastic bag of garbage on the stump.
It was a perfect winter day, one for the books. Hardly they type to miss a chance to show that I at least try to think with varying degrees of success, here's something most people never consider. New lamp wicks. They eventually burn out and need replacing, something I've never done. The wicks are made of braided cotton and here is the new part of what I learned today.
The wicks come in one size, 3/4 inch wide. That is twice the size of the apertures on my lamps. As I reach for the scissors it dawns on me there must be lamps twice the size of my largest. That's something I'd like to see. Next spare moment on the Internet and I promise you a report.

Later, aha, the moment is now. Take a look at this catalog, Dietz Lanterns. All my lanterns are "cold blast" models. Learn something every day. This site not only has lamps for sale, it has all the information you'll ever likely need about lamp construction, safety and operation. I can't add anything to that excellent supplier, but allow me to quote them, "All Tubular Hot Blast and Cold Blast lanterns will self extinguish if tipped over."
Enrique came by on his way to watch the Super Bowl at the Casino. His minimum price is still $3,500, but I showed him how for $500 more, people would buy one of the smaller two bedroom units for sale. I've told him many times I won't buy his place unless the price really drops. This area is still the best trailer court anywhere near Federal Hwy. That's why my lawyer says I should charge a finder's fee for this place. It is still the best in the area and would be paradise except for my partner's backstabbing. The very fact alone that the properties I find are still the best deals in town are proof that I never set out to cheat anyone.
I spent a few hours testing a potentiometer. At first, I just wanted to see the effect. Instead, I was there all afternoon. From using electric drills, I always thought that varying the voltage would vary the speed of the drill. Well, I've been wrong at least once, although I suspect it may have been my setup. I connected the potentiometer to an LED, a voltmeter, and a DC motor. I could vary the voltage and brightness of the LED, but not the motor speed. What have I learned here?
As you can see from the photo, I didn't give up easy. That's because when I'm stubborn, you are supposed to call it "tenacity". I really went at it before deciding it will be better to do more research. This is the motor I wanted to use for PWM testing. I've decided to test each component before proceeding, and this is educational as in every instance I've been dead wrong about something at least once.
