This is a lab concerning voltage drops. It’s a basic fact, but one that is never taught in enough detail. In a series circuit, resistance causes the voltage to “drop” by the percentage of volts that that each resistance is to the total resistance. In this photo, all the resistors are 330 ohm, as we are testing the theory. All the LEDs are the same brightness. Would this be true if the resistors had different values? See, it’s hard to figure out, because it is never taught completely. The answer is yes.
Once again, the bass-drum backing tracks with Cowboy Mike take top billing. That’s because it is working out exceptionally well, a better sound than Karaoke for those of us who know that live music is never perfect. He’ll soon have the 15 tunes needed for a half-gig and the plan is to test them at Jimbos. While Jimbos isn’t my exclusive location, it is always an idea to check with me first. Let me answer the question on everybody’s lips, “Is this mixer playback better than MIDI?”

“Yes,” though it isn’t right in every situation, and neither is anything else. It is actually a retrograde step back to when some musicians played along to a tape recorder. That would still work, but the mixer is a super tape recorder by comparison. One hidden advantage is that Mike and I do not have the problem of every instrument being played by the same musician. I recognize and strongly dislike music made by one person.
FYI, if you want to electronically block all electronic access to your social security information (probably a damn good idea), you have to make it so by going on-line. The point is, you probably thought it was already secure. Try On-Line Security. You can change your mind later, but you’ll have to go in person to the office. A small trade-off considering. (Yes, anyone can get your information by simply clicking on “yes”, that they understand there is a penalty for misuse. They don’t care, misuse is their intent.)

I’m reading a terrible murder-mystery novel. It is so bad, I’m continuing. It is called “Vermillion” by Phyllis A. Whitney and reads much like it was written by somebody with a name like that. As with too many female authors, she’s overlong on what the characters are wearing, the sensible shoes fixation. Is it a family soap, a study in sibling rivalry, or a see-who-cheats-the-most manual? By chapter five, I’d already lost track of who was who’s half-sister, ex-wife, and former squeeze.
Expect lots of little things accomplished today as there is a storm off the coast making everything damp with sprinkles. Good, I need a day to assimilate the new formulas coming in from Singapore. When it gets down to the meat and potatoes, it’s things learned from books 20%; things learned from other club members who made the same mistakes before 80%.

Asking for electronics advice is dicey, since the people who say anything for free won’t guaranty their own accuracy. Hey, mom and dad, you’re not alone! The reality is be careful who you listen to. Most of this town has let things slide so badly it would take ten years of setting things right before they could begin to improve. But so what, as long as they got another beer and the remote, life goes on.
Today’s focus will be the brightness of the LEDs. Singapore has correctly guessed that most beginners want them to be as bright as possible. He says no, that is the wrong approach, the circuit should always be designed to use as little current as possible and still work (with an adequate margin, of course). I’ll test several circuits to see how closely I can follow the formulas.
Prescott, that’s the name of the researcher. Prescott’s Syndrome. That’s the guy who did the studies on the root causes of violence. Taken literally, he says violence is caused by men who were sexually repressed in their pre- and early teens. Stealing money is violence when you take it directly from another person. That’s what that lawyer who stole my money has. It can be tricky to spot the connection, but it’s guys like my brothers and my ex-lawyer who never got any who are the true cause of all trouble in the world.
