Yesteryear
One year ago today: August 30, 2020, brunch at the Peabody.
Five years ago today: August 30, 2016, gone 80% country.
Nine years ago today: August 30, 2012, best train set ever.
Random years ago today: August 30, 2004, Jack the Ripper Day?

This becomes the second day of calm, something I have not seen in Florida for over 20 years. Since the hurricane hit New Orleans that is unlikely the cause, it’s just that calm weather here has never been a good sign. As for New Orleans, that city just never learns and frankly, it is time to write the place off. Didn’t we just spend billions rebuilding the place? This time, abandon it and start over some place above sea level. There are two general comments making the rounds. One is that the city has finally stopped smelling like piss and vomit. The other is that I know nothing about Louisiana and intend to keep it that way.
Here’s my front yard sitting area. I have to smile at the number of articles from Tennessee. The bench in the back, the swing on the right and the flamingo. It’s just a thing how much my life has been changed in less than three years. Question, am I the only one who finds most dried fruit except bananas taste much the same? And that is just as important an issue as anything on NPR this morning.

I took the van in to see about a slight weeble-wobble at 55 mph, there is something wrong, They can’t look until next week. Many shops do only insurance work because it is far easier to gouge insurance companies than to soak the customer for cash. The van is past being new in any way, there will always be something to fix. I should talk, I install some hurricane straps and today I’m listless. This didn’t stop me from staining wood, unloading the van, and clearing away kudzu.
Which left me time to download a lot of music and tabs. That might be 40 and 50 year past material, but I have no copies of stuff like “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” and “House of the Rising Sun”. I listen to that junk when I have to, I should not say junk, I liked these tunes until they got played to death. I now have “The Girls All Get Prettier At Closing Time”, but what a list of nasty comments from the gals. Bloody hypocrites because they do the same to men, just using a different vocabulary. They must love that tune about how the strippers all cry at closing time.
My ally in the new band is the rhythm player. He’s a straight shooter, wears a cowboy hat, and he comes up with the right suggestions if you let him. I’m too new to speak up, but rather than spend twenty hours on getting tight, we need to do a set of five four-hour benefits, you know, where half the tips go to worthy causes and such. Few things tighten a band up faster than getting on stage with somebody who has excelling timing. Along with playing the wrong chord, the worst thing you can do is get off beat and the neat part is the audience will let you know.

Says DC, the war in Afghanistan is over. Bullshit. Democrats need wars. For some reason, probably sheer stupidity, there are American civilians still over there. They had months to clear out while the Taliban was still crouching in caves, so their desire to stay means none of it is our fault back here. Once the military abandons you in such a position, you’re screwed. And I don’t think I’m the only one sick and tired of hearing about Louisiana floods and California fires. If they haven’t don’t something about these recurring disasters by now, they ain’t going to. Leave them to their own and report some real news.

This afternoon I researched what jobs pay these days. Nurses only make tops $41 per hour, that doesn’t seem right. I would have though minimum $60. If I’d kept my old job, I’d be making close to $50 hourly today (base pay), and not putting up with a fraction of the crap nurses do, what, with shift work and crank bosses with hidden agendas. Nursing is a union job, telling me they have shitty unions. The heaviest thing I had to lift was a paper clip. The most complicated part of my job was setting satellite levels, but after five years you just memorize it all and put in the time. There is a rumor that silver prices are being kept down by massive short selling. I don’t know how that works, but I know a pressure cooker situation.
Trending on TicTok and such are people who claim to have multiple personalities. I watched a couple and they are convincing but at the same time fake as hell. It’s a shocker that they have millions of followers who don’t suspect a thing, what are they called now, Zoomers? The ones who open say they can’t wait until the Boomers all die off, but they are such a pack of clueless morons they don’t realize that is who is still holding their world together. It’s passed the point where the next generation can take care of themselves. When your parents are still living with their parents, maybe voting for imbeciles who let in millions of unskilled workers wasn’t your best move. You want equality for all people? You are about to get it up the ying-yang.

You can’t avoid politics these days. The UK has announced it will not join any military ventures with the US while Biden is around. A dead Marine’s family walked out on Biden when he pretended to console them with a scripted speech. Islands are dangerous places to be with tyrants in power, and Hawaii is finding they may soon face vaccination or starvation. The only good news today is Biden’s blithering and incompetence has created a new breed of people running for office. Combat vets, fed up Republicans, housewives, and tattooed bikers. One of the fastest growing trends are groups that refuse to buy from corporations. And since COVID, pre-teen obesity is up nearly 50%. Comes from eating poison food and smart phone addiction.
Then I set about blocking all the begging Jesus sites and those annoying “feel good” posters (on Gab). Imagine my surprise that it only required two blocks to get rid of (so far) every one of the posts. And those Taliban better behave, or by god, our defense secretaries are going to tweet-bomb them to death. Some polls are showing 90% of Americans now at least suspect ballot fraud. Worse, the Democrats know they are up the creek and appear to be adopting a defensive stature, beginning by getting rid of Pelosi (that alcoholic old lady who lies about everything).

My opinion on the upcoming mid-term elections? They will be the most closely watched in my lifetime. The Democrats intend to cheat because they know they cannot win. Their only legitimate hope is Trump voters stay home due to the ongoing attacks on him by the media. Fact is, I expect almost a total turnout for Trump-backed candidates.

ADDENDUM
Tomorrow is the big trucker’s strike in Australia. This could be the showdown that topples the government, and I hope so. Americans are not learning by it, we are still unorganized and milling around. The only place there are even any meetings are at school board protests and a lot of good that does. The situation with the military is coming to a rapid boil, this is a volunteer army and people did not sign up to have politicians become their doctors. What Americans should be doing for now is forming small support groups, organized into leaders of tens and leaders of hundreds. Not for violence, but so they are organized ahead of time.
These truckers are not organized either. They are blocking public roads, when they should be surrounding the neighborhoods of the politicians and bureaucrats. They have no spokesman and no definite goal other than disruption. The police, who will never be respected again in this lifetime, are towing the trucks, because the truckers left them empty and forgot to deflate the tires. Why were the tow truck companies not barricaded in? Nobody was recording the drivers and companies of the tow trucks. For press, they relied on interviews of trained media hacks who twisted their messages. Like American protests, they are not targeting the right people or neighborhoods. Most people can think of five easy ways to stop the wrong people from driving tow trucks and police cars where they aren’t welcome. The Aussies can’t think of any.

There will be arrests. Sadly, in America there is no safe place people can contribute money to funds to help the first round of casualties. That is, the people who lose their jobs have nowhere to turn. True, they did not prepare, but they were living in a land of plenty. What’s needed is some safe harbor for these people until there is a change of power. Too many people turned to Trump who cannot really help any of them unless they get united and put him in charge. That may involve conflict with the left, who are small but organized and have a plan to crush opposition. Trouble is brewing.
Those who believe there is a political solution to the Democrat disaster have little understanding of their enemy. The left views peaceful protests, honesty, and legal process as signs of weakness. They are violent and never give up any power without an armed struggle, but this gets past most people because only one side has been using most of the guns, clubs, tear gas, and rubber bullets. So far. What intrigues me is the rate of any change in Australia. It was presumed the Soviet economy would take years to decline. Australia is a great laboratory, an island and a government that cannot thrive without corruption money flowing in. Each inside member has to get his cut or he’s gone, it is the nature of the beast. Australians don’t have to win, they just have to get everything to stop for a bit, say three days or even a week. The upset it causes will be permanent, and look how fast the Soviets imploded.
