December 16, 2022

Yesteryear
One year ago today: December 16, 2021, seventy times cheaper.
Five years ago today: December 16, 2017, we all hate the DMV.
Nine years ago today: December 16, 2013, argh, Canadians.
Random years ago today: December 16, 2002, life before diversification, sigh.

N'yuck, n'yuck, these vegetarians cheat and everybody knows it but I still get a chuckle when it happens. This morning I made gluten-free pancakes with cranberries, a recipe which includes canned milk, vanilla, and melted butter. There were two pieces left over. I mean, used to be, ha! Then off to Cool Springs for an appointment while I walked the doggies around the terrain. That's where I found a construction site that had thrown out six pieces of plastic pipe and some fittings. Also, a big plastic junction box that solves my problem of a waterproof container. The people even let me use their hose to clean the pieces off.
Then over to Trader Joes, where the Reb has suggested the bag boys always give you two bags, so you don't feel so bad walking out of the store with one bag with $80 in groceries. They have a new product, maple cranberry orange marmelade, an instant hit around here. It looks lumpy but it isn't. Much too cold to do any outdoor work, I'm going to have to put everything away so I can go home in a bit. This was a nice visit but my people need me.

Here's my momentos from the memorial service, the last plush doggie toy and a card with the folks as they were. I should never have fallen out of touch but a thousand miles distance has that effect. It was suggested I stay for Xmas but the chill has already begun to affect my health. There is a reason people who had a rough childhood like to retire on the warm side of the mountains. We got the message the Civic is ready. Leave it for tomorrow. We considered a movie but I could not find anything. What do I care about the themes these days that have no characters I can idenfify with. I watched the trailer for the latest Avatar offering.
There is something haywire with Hollywood and these humanoid aliens. They are portrayed too often as Apache-like Indians who lived in perfect harmony with Nature until the white man stole their land. In other words, too much bullshit. The American aboriginals, for the most part, were anything but peaceful. And I'm betting that if we ever encounter alien races on the far side of the galaxy, they will have evolved something far better to ensure their continuation than ancestor worship, brutal initiation ceremonies, and tribal customs.

Picture of the day.

Taking a break at the Hermitage library, I did some minor research. Indeed, house sales have plunged over a third since a year back. Yet prices remain high, it is 2008, I'm telling ya. While at the library I found they have no books on robotics, navigation, or electronics. There is one Maker Faire book but it is more of a Minecraft text. Later, we opted against a movie and went to the Thai food place. They had a video playing the staff were a bit floored by how I could identify the islands, beaches, and that area around Phuket that is now the Club Med. That was 38 years ago. They were just building the resort but it had already taken away the entire ambience of Karon Beach.
Here's a diagram of a four-cycle engine. Left to right, intake, compression, power, exhaust. Ah, were you thinking of four-stroke? This is your trivia for today. Most people think of these engines sucking in air at the front, killing birds and ingesting who knows. Actually, that is caused by the forward motion of the jet, not the intake. Surprisingly little air is drawn in at the front. You'd have to get almost right up to the nozzle before you'd even feel a draft.

Ah, the truth comes out. Somewhere along the line, Trump endorssed a collector card company to market the cards. He had nothing to do with being presented as a superhero. It was the leftoid press who blew it out of proportion. Before I had time to buy some, they sold out for $99 each and the price soared. Rumor has it Trump, who does not need the money, may have done this as a demonstration that cryptocurrency is solid of properly managed. The 45,000 cards raked in around $4 million, of which $1.4 million was pure profit. And some of the cards are already on sale for up to $24,000 and the liberal press hates it. They can't tie it to any political campaign and can't even prove it was Trump her marketed the cards, rather he only endorsed them. It's better than the libtards, who would simply have stolen the money by stuffing another omnibus bill.
