I got to sleep until noon, neener. When you have led an interesting life, sleeping in is a right, not a privilege. I didn’t say successful or upward-climbing, just interesting. And there are always pesky adjuncts. Like the laser etcher yesterday, that wasted hour. It now takes 11 mouse clicks to get the very latest silver quote. I see the author of an electronics blog I read has published a kit that he takes on vacation, which includes a multi-meter, wire cutters, and a soldering iron. I also include a pill tube of resistors and LEDs. Like myself, he’s discovered good ideas get enhanced by the right kind of traveling.
This is your birdhouse Mark II, showing the design improvements. That’s a familiar looking drill-hole, I’ll bet. So, what could go wrong with this second prototype? Several things, all of which make it not ready. The roof was supposed to overhang on the front, but that means shortening the sides. That makes the interior too small, although I will research that. Also, the brads have to be shortened, the usual size for 1/2" lumber tend to poke through or chip wood. It remains to be seen if the shorter brads are strong enough. The next available size lumber up isn’t right for this wee house.
American Eagle stock is up 20% in one day, the company that published an ad featuring a slim, proportionate, White girl (Sydney Sweeney). The woketards are furious. Once again, the therapy drains my gumption, so let’s do a GP of a star in the northern hemisphere, see if we land on any place interesting. First, get GMT: 2025:07:29 at 17:21:11. My Almanac is outdated, but close enough. The Aries GHA is 202°16.1’ and let’s choose the star Arcturus because we’ve heard of it and it is in the northern sky.
Of course, we can’t see it since it’s daytime, but we know what we’re doing. Arcturus’ sidereal hour angle is 145°55.0’ and its declination is 19°06.6’ north of the celestial plane. Arcturus is presently at W353.6352° by N19.097°. Note conversion to decimals. We Google it, not because Google is accurate, but because it clobbers the other sites that are even worse. It is desert wasteland in Niger, near the Algerian border. The nearest town is Arlit, the place where France mines its uranium. Camel meat is the staple and the local booze is made from figs.
The US operates a military base there since 1915. Saddam was reportedly trying to buy yellowcake (uranium ore) there in 2003. Population 80,000, mostly in the surrounding shanty town. I think this is a
Nope, I’m not up to speed today, so you get some reading. That, plus there is a growler somewhere over the far west horizon, moving south, but that coastline is only 35 miles from here. I promised you the hack for the dollar store stick-on hooks and here you are. This blog dares to show even the cheapest Chinese plastic—if you can make it work.
We had an early Festus festival as the neighbor was expecting company. This episode was about Kitty Falling in love. It was a leftover because the title made us think it was a soap. There was plenty of shooting, even a stagecoach robbery. We should have known that good old Kitty cannot even fall in love without somebody getting shot.

Here’s a better view of the 3D cube shelf. If you don’t get it right way, try blinking one eye. The challenge with this design is that it is a functional shelf and needs a better finish that shown here. What’s more likely is I will make a couple to hone my skills. For me this is a complicated design. And if anybody wants to buy it, fine. It requires three different types & sized of lumber.
Did I ever tell you why I don’t believe people who claim to have “multiple personalities”? It’s from my years at the corporation. If they really have multiple personalities, explain how come every personality has the same IQ. Gotcha!
This afternoon is also a non-starter. The big event was a call from Tennessee from the only person who can keep me on the line for an hour. It was the Reb with a progress report, lots of documents from the recording studio, the head office is in California. Naturally we talked business, it’s one of the few things we have in common over the phone. I’ve known people who were honest but not reliable, and trust me, it is nice to know someone like the Reb.
I have topped up the emergency account. I rest easier knowing she cannot be stranded—you know how much I trust credit cards, cell phones, and taxi companies. From experience (ha-ha) I know there is enough in the account to tow her home from anywhere in central Tennessee. Further than that, get into a fancy hotel and I’ll drive up with the tow bar. Also, that bank card should work on any ATM.
Lots of people don’t know ATMs are not owned by the banks. That’s why they work when the bank doesn’t, and vice versa. She’s spending long hours in the recording studio, but then again, I’m spending long hours on my live rehearsals. The Reb also has an inside track on the goings-on around here, so I can report that, unlike most men in their whole lives, I had a 15 minutes conversation on laser printers & etchers with a woman who knows. Try that in Florida. I’m making a different point, however.
Reb was present when I ordered the gear software of 2017, and the laser was delivered to her place last month. We talked about the DOS nature of the hook-up, she says I should just get an Apple. I’ve sent her footage of the unit. She can see why a larger setup interests me, especially after she received my report of the unit I saw in Melborne 120 or so days ago.
When I expressed my dismay at the complicated and finicky operation of the machine, she reminded me of the times I’ve dealt with this in the past. That, once the system is learned, it places a barrier to others in both the methods but also because I rapidly learn the spots where others will run into the same weeds and can keep ahead of the competition. She further noted that this was the glitch with 3D printers for me. You know, she has me really thinking about a flatbed laser. Remind me to pick up some balsa.
Later, has the storm bypassed us, because if so, I’m keen on getting some setup work done in the shed. This means setting up all three chop saws, each with a single purpose. They cost me less than one single new saw these days, so no sense fiddling to make angle cuts. This philosophy works well having one drill for each common bit size. That angle finder I want is called a digital inclinometer, as always, advertised on the store site, but not stocked at the store.
ADDENDUM
How is the outside world managing? Poorly, by the press releases. The Democrats are cornered so expect a major event. They are just desperate enough to release a fake Epstein list. Hey, if they managed the Russian collusion thing, although it turns out the only two parties not involved were Russia and Trump. Here’s a link to the tsunami simulator, check in tomorrow to see if Hawaii gets the predicted 7 feet of surge. The quake was 8.8, which is near max.
What does this mean for all those Chinese artificial island military bases in the South China Sea, the ones only five feet above sea level? This could be fun. Wny keep the US Navy on station? Just get FEMA involved. How was your July 29, 2025?
