One year ago today: November 14, 2024, pooping ground.
Five years ago today: November 14, 2020, afternoon in Smithville.
Nine years ago today: November 14, 2016, I’m broke vs. global warming.
Random years ago today: November 14, 2008, one boring day.
Up with the birdies, a pre-dawn chorus. The chill is still around, so this morning I’m taking another look at PNP transistors. I did not truly understand this component until I built a working circuit. It is counterintuitive. You have to “take power away” to turn the thing on. That means you have to turn it off turn it on, which won’t make a lot of sense until you try it. But what is most blurry to me is how it is not the opposite behavior of the very popular NPN (negative-positive-negative) transistors that are used everywhere. PNP is just a challenge I feel like learning more about, I even have that box full of them around, the freebie from Hacktronics.
Do I have anything interesting for you? It depends, see this plumb bob? I never had one before because they were so expensive. This one was on sale for $1.85. They are heavy so they don’t sway in the wind. This one came with instructions. You unscrew the cap, it said, and feed string through the hole, then tie a knot. Presumably, that is for people who can’t figure it out for themselves. The string is sold separately, various flavors.
One cutting edge feature was how this bob came with a one-year warranty. Remind me next November to check if it is no longer measuring perpendicular. You can’t even trust gravity these days. Disney continues its downhill slide as youTube chokes them off for non-payment of something or other. I’m re-learning Cheap Tricks “I Want You To Want Me”, and I’m driving downtown, that’s my big plans. Paying the phone bills. Now, that song is one that the guitar player wants played right, but not so right that it steals his thunder. But bass makes that song.
Any news? Telsa is recalling more trucks as parts continue to fall off. Verizon is dumping 15,000 people as Wall Street is getting twinges from A.I. trading fallout. I searched on “bass” in my blog archives and got 13,661 hits. I located the correct 8/3 cable, which cost 10% as much as the stove itself. On the way, I listened to more of “Paris Echo” and it is really bad. But I can see how this would appeal to children but for the crude language. It is doubtful I will ever be as interested in other people’s bodily functions as these Europeans.
Same with their sex lives. While I find it fascinating how a gal past age of consent (wherever you are reading this) might talk about her unfolding experiences, the same gal at twice that age has no appeal to me. In this book so far it is one boring lady who regards sex as a prehistoric ritual she has to get over with to pursue her serial relationships.
Here’s a clip of testing the PNP, you have seen this demo other times. The zink here is that I have to regularly return to memorize this behavior or I forget. This is more for me, telling myself it is not the absence of power that operates this thing, but the presence of a path to ground. Why does this derail me after a while?
The neighbor is burning plastic. It is illegal to burn plastic. I’m saying nothing. What’s more, I believe I’m finally experiencing extended fatigue, something I noticed in my 30s happened to people in their 50s. Does that make sense? The phone company had thousands of older employees and none of them would qualify as overworked. But I saw the decline around that age and I was happy by 60 to have none of that. Now I’m thinking it was just delayed. This has been the process for me a long time. I don’t ease into old age, it is more quantum leaps.
And for months now, a good long rest or sleep does not result in recover. You wake up still tired, as in work-physical-exertion tired. If so, I’m ready for it. It just arrived ahead of schedule. Recent stat show the odds of myocarditis. For the unvaxed, 1:255,000. To the vaxed, 1:40. Yet vaccines are still being advertised and given to people without consent. If you must go into the hospitial, do NOT sign anything you have not read—and learn the sneaky terms they use. There could be more to a “pre-op” shot than you bargained for.
French playground safety nets.

I’ll see if I can get a sample for you, there is somebody charting the MSM frequency of anti-Trump posts against Democrat failures like the recent shutdown. It’s hilarious and nasty. Not all would be meaningful here, but one example is the number of demands for the Epstein files leaped from 800 per day to 7,900 the day after they caved. The MSM has also tried to paint the shutdown itself as Trump’s fault but few people bought that.
The final stats are in for my cost of living since Bidenflation. Sadly, my direct costs of living, which include rent, auto insurance, utilities, and wifi have risen from 33% of my total income per month to 55%. Salvation could come with proposals to cut off all immigrants and raise social security to the maximum for everybody. For most, that would be a lifesaver, for me a dream come true.
This is a timer set for the bathroom. The room with no heat or A/C. Except that is not strictly true. The oil radiator heater is in there and this timer reveals habits. One is my getting up at 5:30AM most mornings nearly 30 years after I had to get up for work. This is now profiling works in mini. You can see the timer set to go on at 4:30AM, then off at 6:30AM, so the room is warm if I have to dash. Heat is not needed during the day, but in winter it’s chilly when the sun goes down. The heater is back on for a few hours until 1:00AM, when I’m most likely to be working at my desk. Given time, I would install a separate outlet for this appliance.
I did not wire the 8/3. There was due to lack of gumption. I gave me time to reset the budget registers. Over time the averages shift off, so updating keeps them fine tuned. One example is Marion, who was half my postage allocation. It was up to $1.58 per stamp. And some usage change has upped my data usage “another $10 a month”, probably because I’m reading fewer short books than ever and on-line research has really surged with the laser and also seeking box designs. The data minutes must be adding up.
Add to that how often something catches my eye. An example was this guy building a “log cabin” bird feeder. They aren’t logs. Instead he just scored some lumber a scratch deep the long way. When sliced to size, it sure looks like logs. Brilliant. I won’t say the same for the radio stations which began with Xmas music at noon.
Aha, there’s my favorite red shirt that went missing. Hanging behind my winter jacket, how’d it get there? So I put it on and grabbed the bass again. It’s a comfort shirt you might say, and ran through the Cheap Trick tune, adding a couple passing notes. Of all the duh, there is also another tune of theirs called “I Want You” that gets in your way. The bass line I’ll memorize in a couple hours. Years ago I saw a folk guitarist play the old version of this rock tune in G. The song has a lot of chords, but if you watch closely, the guy used contorted variations to get the effect, which is something I could not expect most casual guitar players to know. But add the notes with a bassline and I believe that song becomes a duo winner.
That’s what is getting my attention. I know what the guy is doing and every one of those can better be played with the correct note on the bass. This suggests it is possible to arrange this tune so the guitar play only has the strum ordinary farmer chords, with the odd barre thrown in.
Deciding it was a good night, I went over to the old club. Deadsville, no local people and that weirdo DJ who thinks he can make it a disco joint, that’s what four times he’s flopped already. Being preparted, I took out my stationery and fired off a hand-written to Hersh. After a bit, India was in. We need an update on that one. We have not moved a single product yet, but she remains enthused, meaning I will talk with her. I’ve picked up she is on the verge of being single and has kids. This says she wants to meet men in a fast hurry. If you’ve been following along, this is a very common situation in my life.
I’m a seasoned “safe date” since my phone company days. It began with women who wanted to see a movie but were afraid to go alone and they know I wouldn’t’ hit on them. What was not planned was that around me, you’ll meet people wholesale. The downside, gals, is you will meet no more winners than I do with the ladies. Tons of what you don’t want—but at least there is a chance, and that bring us to tonight.
She likes partying at Ybor Cigars. So do I, but it’s a long drive alone. India was once a total babe and still has a lot of the charm. Thus, she knows all the musicians at the jams, which are on Wednesdays. We have a pending date. It’s a win-win if I find a guitarist and she finds a husband. No promises, but stay tuned. She is an attractive woman, just not for me at this time.
ADDENDUM
With A.I. generating the news these days, I do not believe the following, except to say videos I’ve seen support the reports and match the facts exactly. In Canada, any province can separate with a simple majority vote, and the Feds have been kicking Alberta in the teeth for years. Secession would be a nightmare for Ottawa, who retains an almost terror-like grip on the provinces using a system called transfer payments. It works like this. You can collect all the income taxes you want, but you must send it to Ottawa, who then “transfers” it back with strings attached.
Also, the central government is vastly into overreach, dictating what provinces and even individuals can or can’t do. Recall the old saying, in Canada if it is not forbidden, it is compulsory. Most Canadians are brainwashed from birth that the USA is bad, but they form the only real resistance to at least forming their own independent nation. Here is what I know:
What to make of this Western Canadian, what would you call it, secession? It looks like it and makes sense. The four western provinces are resource-rich and Ottawa has been milking them dry for decades, using the money to enact unpopular and often punishing policies. Then there was the use of federal police to crackdown legal protesters and the confiscation of money, rifles, and farms. I’ll record what I’ve heard so far. Nobody is saying it yet, but Alberta, with an average annual worth of over $90,000 per capita, has been reluctantly footing the bill for eastern welfare cases who hate them. I also read somewhere that Saskatchewan has a per capita of $75,000.
The provincial leaders of Alberta and Saskatchewan handed Ottawa the verdict, wisely not giving them any warning or time to react. Federal employees and offices were told to pack up and leave. Next, top officials in the west made announcements concerning the reality of the economic situation. The USA is the biggest trading partner and from what I could see in the background, places like Calgary and Edmonton had dancing in the streets. The figure of $25 billion per year paid in taxes sent east and wasted works out to over $7k per person, so triple that for each taxpayer.
I know from my old job there was tremendous built-up hostility to handing this money over, but it was countered by eastern propaganda that the US was evil and only Ontario liberals could save the country. Now it looks like there may be a new country that saves itself. It’s been a lot of embarrassing years they put up with that weirdo Justin. I have investments in Canada, but all solidly in the far west.
Make no mistake, this is not some casual approach to trade. Alberta and Saskatchewan are economic powerhouses (my guess is $1.5T) with fully educated work forces and tremendous infrastructure—and they have already dispatched delegations to the USA. If they should join forces, the tariff free access to Alberta oil and Saskatchewan grain and fertilizer would eclipse all other economies, included the arthritic and heavily subsidized factories of Ontario, Quebec, and the other have-nots.
What’s more is the other two western provinces are discontent and would happily follow suit. I would be more for a new nation than a joining with the USA as new states. There are elements of freedom and ethnics worth preserving. I wonder what they would call a new nation. Alberta has long been dubbed “Texas North”. Just don’t call it Gretsky anything. Either way, Ottawa has gotten the boot. It will be fun to watch the bureaucrats try to salvage anything from this—and it serves them right. They had it comin’.
