March 3, 2003

[Author's note: This page has a history. It disappeared for ten years, to be rediscovered on March 15, 2026. On this day, Frank Bytheway and myself completed counting to one million. We chose toothpicks, and this is the final unit. Alas, there was no journal kept in this period. Other than some "calendar" entries there is no blog material. This entry was found accidentally posted ten years in advance, that is, in March of 1993. Neither date has any formal record, so both entries are left in place.]

The famous 1,000,000th toothpick. After months of counting, we could predict when the magic moment would occur. So we invited everybody we knew and six or seven actually showed up. That’s Frank holding the final toothpick, I still have it around here for safekeeping. Within weeks, we were off to San Diego as guests of the Fair, but that is another tale from the trailer court. I have no idea why this picture is black & white.
