Yesteryear
One year ago today: May 20, 2022, a pet conspiracy.
Five years ago today: May 20, 2018, similar Morse patterns.
Nine years ago today: May 20, 2014, an interesting failed try.
Random years ago today: May 20, 2015, only 7/100.

First the good news, the audition went mighty fine. The guy has been through the start up phase enough times to know where not to waste time. He has a type of jazz chording that fits to anything, a good substitute for strumming. We ran through 32 songs, the minimum required for a gig. The early news that he does not sing is true, but he knows a passel of classic instrumentals. That includes anything by the Ventures and the Fireballs.
Pause to take a look at this safety valve. Simplicity itself. There is a calibrated spring inside that pushes up and trips an ordinary microswitch at 100 PSI. That closes the power off, you can see the two pins where it is inserted into the hot side of the wiring.
I’m happy it went well but he wants to start up a big band, four or five pieces. I don’t think (therefore) he has any real management experience. He does not have the place, the time, or the know-how to manage that many people. The only time you will start a band from scratch where everybody knocks themselves out to get it going is in your early or mid teens.

The audition went very well, just the guitar player has a different notion of a band. He likes “serious” music, that means lots of it is slow and emotional. The exact opposite of what you sant in a live band, but sometimes you gotta go with the flow. Like myself, he has played many tunes at some point in the past, so dusting them off is no big challenge.

           Included are

           Memphis
           Midnight Special
           Oh Lonesome Me
           Six Days on the Road.

I got in the door to find the sink had not drained from this morning. This time to blockage is inside the wall. I’ll get it but I’m in no mood to start such a project before leaving. I got it to drain slowly enough that it won’t overflow and proceeded to batten the hatches. The birdfeeders are set for two weeks. The sheds all have fake security cameras.
Here’s an experiment that has failed so far. A magnet moving in the vicinity of that coil should create enough current to light the red LED. There are three components. The LED, a 220 ohm resistor, and the coil. Not shown is the magnet, which is attached to a drill. In this experiment, the magnet moves, as it spins it should induce an alternating current in the coil.

Karaoke tonight and I was invited. I opted to stay at home, where I sat down and promptly fell asleep in my office chair until morning. No, I did not learn to sleep in an office chair working at the phone company. I managed to make up some song lists of everything I could possibly sing, which I’ll get to Gary providing he stays enthusiastic over the project. He wants to bring in a singer right away, if he does it will drive him bananas and break up the band.
I say we establish ourselves as a duo and only then look at expansion. His lack of understanding this is the correct approach is a potential deal-breaker.
