One year ago today: January 26, 2024, says it’s gamey.
Five years ago today: January 26, 2020, any place but Arabia.
Nine years ago today: January 26, 2016, $4 million, they say.
Random years ago today: January 26, 2012, infinite foreclosures.
Listen to the birds! Told ya, and yes, the woodpeckers are back. Normally they go for the suet, but that orange seed must be like steak or candy. Looks like on hell of a day shaping up as the thermometer climbs steadily since dawn. Let’s do the pancake breakfast thing and see how far we get. To cheer things along, there are increasing reports of panic among employees at Federal offices, crying what will they do now? Well, if you only “skill” is working for a government office that produces nothing, may they should be scared.
At the swap meet, I cut through the produce area, failing to find the trailer hitch place. I could not walk that much, yes, my back. This display caught my eye, a “flat” of strawberries. Again I’m amused that things do not cost cheaper where they come from. I mean, right, there is no storage or transportation costs, or shelving and yet these ordinary strawberries carry a $35 price tag. No, they are not organic or that much better, they are just strawberries. Never could figure that one out.
Looks like, twenty years after my posts, people are finally on to Bank of America and their sordid, cheating ways. I’m rooting for their downfall. Trump has done more in five days than the last ten presidents. And I got less done than I should because there was some sort of problem with the newly wired security light. Rather than hunt in down, I rewire the entire box using new connectors and now it’s fine. I suppose this counts as work but it is more logistics that enable me to work. I wired up an extension cord so it has a circuit breaker on one ene, put the final coat of stain on the neighbors small box, and cut some lumber.
Checking the mail, we have a response from the guitar player in Plant City, though chances are he wants a big band. Big but unemployed, and I’m done with that race. The guy has certainly be consistent, he first responded in early 2003 but lived so far away. Times change and now it’s sensible to travel further to few gigs. I recall him saying he takes a vacation around this time of year and confirms he will be gone until April. (Later, he emailed back to say he is avaible for rehearsal before then. If he can rehearse with my fully-trained duo, he can gig.)
Turns out Bruce Willis has a sequel to RED so that takes care of my plans for this evening. That reminds me, I’m low on supplies again. Fried rice tonight, maybe some popcorn for the movie. That meets my blog quota for mentioning food. I need to buy a short chain suitable for moving vehicles, don’t let me forget. That transmission job is drawing near. Did I mention the tow driver from Valdosta has turned out a good contact. I put him on the e-mail list which is not intended for replies, but he generally sends back optimistic replies.
The dream high school lab.

You know that fancy router bit I made last day for cutting panel slots? It’s a 16th of and inch too narrow for my best panel lumber. Here is a view of the work area where most of the boxes are assembled. There’s an unassembled box at the top, these are the side pieces that follow the “golden ratio”, but only in length and width. The height is any standard lumber size. My pliers rest on an old sheet of MDF board which shows its age but also reflects that I like to pursue my hobby.
Dave, the guitar player, has responded and is very interested in meeting up. That’s a measure of the terrible challenges getting a band happening in this area. People are willing to drive 30 miles and the only thing my band can bring to the table at this time is at least we are organized and able to survive. There are telltale signs he’s more dedicated than most. He’s asked for a song list, but everything we play is pretty standard. That means minimal practice time, but I will always be suspicious of guitar players. And I don’t know if this guy can sing.
In political news, ICE is moving too slow and that is drawing flak. They “proudly annonce” arresting 956 today. As if any school child cannot calculate that 10,000 per day are needed to rid the problem in four years. We also don’t like the expensive and time-consuming arrest system. Why bother arresting them. The solution has always been to set up a bounty system.
We are treated to the ridiculous spectacle of illegals holding protests. None of it will work, they do not belong here. Blocking roads and waving foreign flags isn’t helping them any. Predictably, many police and other units are cooperating who were formerly coerced into going along with bad policies. This used to be common in American workplaces, a few hotheads attacking anyone who did not openly support the radical left. Too bad for them, them, the terms racist and nazi have lost their impact.
