Isn’t this potato day in 2011? The A/C was off overnight. Will I ever get used to such dead silence? I’m doing terrible at my favorite work puzzles this week. I just don’t know sports slang. Big troubles in Europe, but only because the nationalists are still organizing. But not my birds, the dawn chorus has begin. A check of the news shows the recent spate of anti-Trump bombast has tapered off to nothing. The Ohio and Georgia early voting is a disaster for the Democrats in what looks like a 40% drop. It’s like the cheaters know ICE is watching this time. Isn’t today when Alberta votes on separation?
Take a look at these brand new F-boxes. That’s the weathered oak finish and it is not as nice as it seemed when applied to smaller objects. Again you get a day of box activity, not much else. These are still excellent boxes. The latest model using only 16 staples instead of the previous 28. This is partially due to spacing the staples more evenly, and finally used the correct size staple for this lumber thickness.
The lady from the paint place now has 8 photos of similar boxes, but she has not returned any e-mail. So, we will assemble a box with her name on it and see if the spurs any response. The neighbor was over to chat and we got to talking hobbies. He reports the same decline in fellowship since retirement as myself. That is, twenty years ago I knew twenty musicians. Today I know three or four. He says same with his artist group. You’d think Florida would be stuffed full of older, talented people, seeking the like-minded.
Another expensive study from “Neurology” magazine reveals that older people over 66 who get off their asses do not rot away like TV-addicts. It was this week in 1953 a professor named Brown flew his “antigravity” disks around a 50 foot course in Pearl Harbor. The Army quickly took over the project. Neither the disks or Brown have been seen or heard from since. I’ve also read elsewhere that story is bogus.
Here’s a shot of the boxes being fitted with knobs. You’ll have to hunt around for the explanation. I guess the finish isn’t all that bad, I just don’t care for it.
A.I. music promotion and distribution. It is so nice to have someone call up and talk about this for 35 minutes. I mean, compared to what other women talk about. From my perspective, it is always nice to have not just a backup plan, 99% of which are just talk anyway, but to have it in low-key operation simultaneously. She mentioned a couple used by people she knows, so if I find any data, I’ll pass it one. I’m in the middle of a lethargic spell.
My changed VPN network today has me positioned in Canada. I don’t know if that is such a great way to keep anonymous. Then, there is the requirement to have both a phone capable of text messaging and an e-mail address for almost any government business these days. Yet, these are among the very simplest things to fake for getting any ID.
What’s this? Modern Times, the restaurant with no prices, is bankrupt. People paid what they thought it was worth, but as usual these days, that lasted only until the third worlders move into the parking lot. Rumor has it since ICE began enforcing immigration laws, the place was also having staffing problems.
Nice, but is it coffee?

I was on-line doing my annual check of e-mails and contacts. Yep, the system has totally tightened up. After only 36 years, MicroSoft finally caught on to my system of circular references. And I cannot access my oldest e-mail accounts without something current, or giving them a valid working phone number—and they are now insisting that number must be set to accept SMS (text messaging). I thought this over while working on the Yeti box. Here is today’s progress showing the cutout to expose the front panel outlets. This might get snickers from carpentry majors while for me, this is precision work. Visible in one of the plug ports at back. What’s going on here is the rope handles are not yet fastened. They are dipped in glue and drying in the sun, to stop unraveling.
The handles are rope so they remain flexible. I don’t know where the box will have to fit. Tighter spots means your hands have to fit around a rigid design to get a grip. These ropes are cut to length that the hand loop is higher that the top of the box, allowing it to be set into place from the top, not just slid in from the side.
Omar is on the run. Another spate of athletes with blood clots in the lungs, all vaxxed of course. On Mars, the rover Perserverance has passed the World Record of 28 miles traveled on another planet. No word on who came in second.
Time for another trap setup. I don’t need to set up the game cam to know we have another possum visitor. Folks, they are harmless, they eat pests, and they know how to get into this building. The thing is, they are not that great at hiding. I was up late again, fitting knob (some call then drawer pulls) to the fake boxes from this morning (fake or Fake, capitalization makes no difference here). But I had time so I hauled out my cheapest pair of calipers, and studied them. Then I heard something bump in the kitchen. I didn’t bother to go look, it’s a possum.
Now these calipers and knobs. There’s an unlikely blog pair for you. The knobs usually come with a mounting screw that is too long for mounting on the thinner lumber of my boxes. There are various ways to shorten them, the fastest being bolt cutters. All methods create a small tag on the end of the screw which must be filed away before it will fit back into the knob. The only grinder I have is way out in the shed. So, I investigate calipers out of curiosity.
I’m okay with tenths of an inch, but I have a scale labeled 1/128th. It’s not my imagination that most people cannot naturally add such fractions. Yet reading a caliper is probably something everybody should learn once and promptly forget it like I did. Well, 1/128, today is the day I find out why you even exist. First, take another look at the progress on the Yeti box. The front access panel shown nearby also reveals the heavier duty construction of this casing. It almost looks armored. Just say I’ve learned my lessons about boxes that get banged around more than usual. I learned the same about women around 55 years ago.
Now back to calipers, specifically Vernier calipers, because they do not need batteries. What remarkable times, I found two videos that convinced me I’m okay with tenths of an inch. The 1/128th scale involves adding fractions by converting to common denominators. Fine, if you do that for living. All it did was convince me to stay away from it.
Worse, when you get results that are factorable, you then must reduce the fraction. Each step is an opportunity for error. The biscuits I use for laser labels are 2-35/128” wide. The distance between prongs on an electric plug is 13/32”. And the diameter of a US dime is 91/128”, or call it 17.9mm. If this does not put me to sleep, what will? Possibly listening to Tampa radio, but I’m enjoying the silence. I’ve been living in the city so long, the silence seems almost eerie.
ADDENDUM
Later, I see the last of my 1990 e-mail addresses have been canceled by MicroSoft and AOL. TMOR, this is what is wrong with America. These are software companies that have to right to know anything about you, but now they are insisting on full identification. And on top of that, the right to locate and contact you at their convenience. They are already keep secret records on everybody they can. They say it is for safety and security.
That is bogus. The system already knows who the bad operators are. But they are not after the bad guys. They are using that as an excuse to keep tabs on everybody, or gradually lock them out of the system. No phone? Then you cannot even order a pizza. I’m going to think this over, with an eye to seeing if I can defeat or bypass that system. Nothing illegal, like I said, these companies have no authority to do what they are doing. But we now have a third generation groomed for complacency and Internet compliance.
For that matter, MicroSoft is ten or more years into planning to cut off all users except those with an active account which includes their identity. I notice when Redmond cuts something out of their new releases. Things like DOS and QBASIC are quietly dropped—these are items that allow computer apps to be created and run locally on a non-Internet computer. Mind you, only for those people who have the brains to do it. Who else would notice the pattern to what’s disappearing?
